Institutional Biorisk Management Committee
With the aim of maintaining the high standard set by the institute in research and development for publication and quality of research projects, an “Institutional Biorisk Management Committee (IBRMC)” is constituted to support the biorisk management system at the University of Karachi. The committee comprises the following faculty members/directors, tasked with streamlining research projects in accordance with institutional biosafety policies and codes of practice, and reviewing research protocols involving infectious agents, animal use, recombinant DNA, genetically modified materials and synthetic biology aspects of projects.

The committee is responsible for reviewing and approving biosafety and biosecurity policies and procedures for biological risk assessments, compliance issues, and action plans for risk management, and for reporting incidents and accidents related to biorisk management of projects. All faculty members and principal investigators are required to submit a “Biorisk Management Assessment Form” before submitting a research proposal to funding agencies / the Advanced Studies Research Board (ASRB).
