Teacher education courses in other countries extend three to four years, improving teaching skills and perceptions of the profession; Pakistan's traditional one-year format falls short of this. The department's goal is to equip prospective teachers with skills essential for lifelong learning through a broad-based, flexible professional education.

It is the matter of great satisfaction that with the consistent efforts, the University of Karachi has introduced B.Ed. (Hons) 4 year program. The alternative paradigm of teacher education program consider structural changes in the system of teacher education, while redefining the teacher’s roles within the framework of the school education system.
Teacher Education courses in different countries extend for three or four years providing opportunity to improve upon teaching skills and the perception of teaching. Teacher education in Pakistan is for only one year, which does not expose to experiences necessary to enhance teaching skills and develop a positive perception of profession
Our goal is to equip the prospective teacher with skills essential for a lifelong learning. We believe that a broad-based, flexible professional education provides the most appropriate formal preparation to:

Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed
Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed is currently teaching in the Department of Teacher Education, University of Karachi. He earned his Master degrees in English Literature from Bahauddin Zakria University Multan in 1999. He did B.Ed. from Jamia Millia Govt. College of Education in 2002. Afterwards he got his M.Ed (Educational Planning and Management) from Govt. College of Education, F.B. Area Karachi.
He participated actively in Faculty Development Initiatives, organized by the University of Karachi in collaboration with Higher Education Commission, currently he is member Board of Faculty. He represented University of Karachi in Curriculum Planning and Development workshop for B.Ed (4 years degree), organized by Pre-STEP.
Mr. Imtiaz has also worked with International Centre for Religious Diplomacy (ICRD) in designing and Implementation of “Madarassa Teacher Training Program” offered by the University of Karachi in collaboration with ICRD, USA. He is enrolled as Research Scholar in MS leading to Ph.D program at University of Karachi. His area of specialization is Educational Planning and Management. His area of interest in research is “Quality Assurance in Higher Education”.
Currently, he is engaged in Research Project offered by Pre-STEP focusing on the analysis and development of teaching Practice Manual.
Intizar Hussain
Intizar Hussain, currently teaching in Teacher Education Department as a Lecturer. He did his master’s in Education and pursuing M.S. in Education Department. He is attached with the teaching learning process from 2009, and is working on teaching and research projects related to Education.

At least 50% marks in Intermediate (HSC) or equivalent examination. The structure of B.Ed. program is as follows;

The prime rationale of designing this 4-year B.Ed. program is to prepare the workforce ready to meet the challenges of globalization in term of command on subject-matter, instructional strategies, lesson planning, classroom management, professional development of peer, to develop the linkage of classroom learning with community practices, enrichment of academic environment and fostering a high sense of professional ethics.
This 4-year B.Ed. program comprises eight semesters where variety of courses will be offered. Each subject in the program has two main components that is theory about the subject-matter and practicum. The courses are offered in terms of curriculum development, pedagogical knowledge and skills, research methodologies and assessment and evaluation as core elements of this course
