Clinical Pharmacy Practice
Clinical Clerkship

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is a newly launched department of the Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Karachi with a vision of strengthening the applied aspects of Pharmacy in order to meet the requirements of developing Pharmaceutical care plans to monitor patient’s drug therapy, educate patients and health care professionals service of Pharmaceutical care, medication therapy management, community Pharmacy service, and certain specialized service in pediatrics, oncology, infectious diseases, cardiology, drug information service, etc. by providing trained health- care system pharmacists maintain drug distribution system total Parenteral Nutrition and to solve drug related issues, etc.
Under the guidance of esteemed and seasoned faculty, the Department of Pharmacy Practice is dedicated to producing skilled pharmacists and advancing the field through innovative research in various aspects of pharmacy practice. Our vision includes offering specialized programs that foster professional growth and excellence in the future.
Department of Pharmacy Practice executes and certifies 200 hours clinical clerkship program in different renowned tertiary care general and specialist hospitals to meet the Pharm-D. Curriculum and post graduate research requirements. In addition to this, one month training in a community pharmacy and Drug Information Centre under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, is also part of the professional curricula.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is proud to offers courses in undergraduate Pharm.D. and postgraduate M. Phil. in Pharmacy Practice degree programs, which has received approval from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and meets all the required standards and criteria, ensuring a high-quality education and research experience for our students.
Aims & Scope
Aims and Scope of the Program:
Pharmacy Practice at Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Karachi is aimed to produce leaders for integrating education, research and practice by virtue of innovative and collaborative ventures within a diversified community and clinical health care systems across the country.
Pharmacy Practice is the demand of the current era in healthcare system. In hospitals, pharmacist take care of the patients by clinical interventions and rationalizing therapy, monitoring the outcomes and strategizing the clinical input to reduce adverse effects and report those adverse effects. Furthermore, via patient education and counseling, the pharmacist practitioner provides the social and behavioral contingence to the patients and general public.
The scope of Pharmacy practice is extending from Healthcare system, through Academia, and Regulatory Affairs of pharmacy practice to pharmaceutical research in Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology. These healthcare services as regarded as a pillar in healthcare system, hence, services to the society. In every sphere of healthcare system, these pharmacists are employed, and their services are procured.
Objectives
Programs’ Objectives:
The M.Phil. program in Pharmacy Practice is designed to pioneer innovative research in Clinical Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Community Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Marketing, and Public Health. The department cores to develop and integrate educational and service models in pharmacy practice, bridging academia and real-world settings to cultivate leadership and expertise, providing visionary guidance to the profession and community.

The department boasts state-of-the-art facilities, complemented by a well-stocked faculty seminar library, featuring an extensive collection of up-to-date subject relevant books and journals. This resourceful library ensures that the academic and research requirements of the students and faculty are duly met, providing a conducive environment for learning and scholarly pursuits.
Model Pharmacy Setup:
To inculcate the modern community pharmacy practice simulation and on site practical sessions, a model pharmacy has been designed to facilitate a real time like experience to the undergraduate students.
Computer Facilities:
Sufficient computer facilities are available with a stable internet facility for the students.
Alignment with Hospitals for undergraduate trainings and internships:
The departments is aligned with renowned hospitals of the city for undergraduate research projects. This is in collaboration with renowned health care providers, physicians and consultants onboard.
