It was established in 1953 to provide facilities for advanced studies and original research in the field of Islamic History & Culture, with Professor Dr. Amir Hassan Siddiqui as its first and founder Head.

Department of Islamic History may be regarded as one of the oldest departments in Karachi University. It was established in 1953 with a view to provide facilities for advance studies and original research in the field of Islamic History & Culture. Professor Dr. Amir Hassan Sidddiqui was the first and founder-Head of the Department.

The Seminar Library possesses a collection of about 3000 books. It provides reading and research facilities to the students of Islamic History.

Co-curricular Activities:
Co-curricular activities are necessary to encourage and polish the talents of the younger generation, and to infuse in them the spirit of social and cultural advancement. The department has an Advisory Committee to guide and organize activities like picnics, excursion tours, historical visits, quiz and essay competitions etc.
