Moonis Ahmar , Associate Professor, M.Sc. (Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad), M.Phil. (University of Karachi), Ph.D. (University of Karachi).
Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security (ACDIS) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States from March-June 1993 and November 1994 to June 1996. Also worked as a Visiting Fellow at the Henry L. Stimson Center, Washington DC, United States. Fields of interest include Confidence- Building Measures and Conflict Resolution with particular reference to South and Central Asian regions. Project Director, Ford Foundation-International Relations Department Research Project, "Peace by Process: Lessons for India and Pakistan from the Middle East." Organized one International Conference and three International Workshops. Published in journals of international repute. Member of various National and International Organizations.
Syed Sikander Mehdi, Professor, M.A (Dhaka University) Taught at Dhaka University during 1970-72. Joined the University of Karachi in 1973.Visiting Research Fellow at the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo. Was an elected member of Karachi University Syndicate. Published extensively on peace and nuclear issues in Pakistan and abroad. Research work translated in German. Attended a number of National and International Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. Regularly invited by various Staff Colleges to lecture on strategic and defense issues. Presently preparing a study on refugees and editing a book on Contemporary South Asia. Fields of interest include Peace Research and Peace Movements, Contemporary South Asian Relations, Human Rights, Refugee issues and Nonviolence. Guiding a number of students for the M.Phil Program.
Khalida
Ghous, Assistant Professor, M.A. (Karachi University), Ph.D.
(KU.) Currently Director, Women Studies Center, University of Karachi
Human Rights, Far East and Pakistan's Foreign Policy are her areas of
interest. She has published articles in internationally acclaimed journals
and completed several research projects sponsored by the Faculty of
Arts, (KU.). Participated and organized many National and International
Seminars and Conferences including a recent one on "Trafficking of Women
and Children in South Asia. " Has been a delegate to the UN Commission
on Human Rights. Has delivered lectures in American Universities as
guest speaker and various Staff Colleges at home. she is the Hon. Assistant
Director of Pakistan Center for Democracy Studies and Secretary General
of World University Service (an International N.G.O.) She is author
of a book on "Rights of Women in Islam" (which is in the press) and
co-editor of another one on Pakistan's Foreign Policy: Problems and
Prospects and has contributed articles in many books, journals, newspapers
and magazines.
Shaista Tabassum, Lecturer, M.A. (University of Karachi) At present working on her Ph.D. program under the guidance of Dr. Moonis Ahmar. She is one of the founder members of Pakistan American Studies Association based in Islamabad. Her field of specialization is the Nuclear issue in South Asia and areas of interest include International Law, South Asia and U.S. She has contributed articles in various journals, books and newspapers and lectured in Staff Colleges. Participated in National and International Seminars, Workshops and conferences and in late September 98 is visiting Shanghai (PRC) to attend an Int. Workshop on Defence, Technology and Security of South Asia.
Sheila
Z. Ahmed, Lecturer M.A. (University of Karachi)
Europe and Pakistan Affairs/Freedom Movement are her major fields of specialization and other fields of interest include, Theories of International Relations, Strategic Studies and historical as well as contemporary relations between Islamic and Western Societies. Teaching at the Department since January 1994. She is currently pursuing research on "The European Union's role in the Bosnian War: 1992-1995", for her M.Phil/Ph.D. thesis under the guidance of Prof. Emeritus Dr. Riazul Islam. Undertook an unofficial research tour of Bosnia Herzegovina, U.K, the Netherlands and Germany in Sep.-Nov. 1997 and obtained primary source material on the E.U.'s role during the War in Bosnia and conducted related interviews including those of important personalities like the Bosnian Prime Minister Dr. Haris Siladzic.She is also working on a Faculty of Arts funded research project entitled "Antecedents of Hindu Muslim Separatism Before the Advent of The British". She has read research papers in National and International Seminars (held in Pakistan) and has been contributing articles to various research journals, books, Urdu and English newspapers and magazines. Has organized academic programs including Pakistan Affairs Lecture Series and a Seminar on Pakistan's Security Concerns.
Sheikh Mutahir Ahmed , Lecturer, M.A. (Karachi University)
He worked as Senior Research officer at Pakistan Institute of International Affairs for several years and joined the Department of International Relations in August 1995. His area of Specialization is CBMs with particular reference to religious extremism in South and Central Asian Regions. His articles have been published in internationally acclaimed academic journals, i.e. Contemporary South Asia (U.K) Eurasian Studies, Perceptions (Ankara, Turkey). Currently he is working on his M.Phil.lPh.D. Program under the guidance of Dr. Moonis Ahmer on "Afghan Conflict and its Implications on South and Central Asian Regions".
Huma Naz Siddiqui, Lecturer, M.A. (Karachi University)
Her interest areas include US Politics and Political Geography. Has been teaching at the Department of International Relations since August 1995. Visited the U.S. under the USIS Visitor's Program in Sep.-Oct. 1996.
Farhan Hanif Siddiqui, Lecturer, BA (Hons.) Karachi University, M.A. (Karachi University) Fields of interest include US's Role in World Affairs, Theories of International Relations, the Middle East and Developmental Economics. Contributed research articles in books and journals as well as articles in newspapers and magazines. Participated in a number of Seminars, Conferences and Workshops. Also attended a USIS program at the Southern Illinois University, Carboudale, U.S.A., from 27th June till 9th August 1989.
Syed Amir Hameed, Lecturer, in the Department of International Relations, He completed his Post-Graduate degree from University of Wollongong, Australia. Presently he is teaching "Environment and International Relations", "Social Development" and "Diplomacy". His area of specialization is "International Terrorism".
