The

appointed as its first chairman and subsequently Prof. Dr S M Yahya,
Prof. A R Hanafi, Prof. Dr S Nazim Hussain Zaidi, Prof. Dr M A Rauf
Qureshi, Prof. Dr Ansaruddin Syed, Prof. Dr Jawaid Qamar, Prof. Islamuddin
and Prof. Dr. Nasir Khan remained as the chairmen of the department.
Presently Prof.
Dr. Rana Khalid Naeem is
holding the chairmanship of the department.
Initially Pure and Applied Mathematics were introduced for
graduate and post graduate classes. This practice continues for about
three
decades
since the inception of the department.
Thereafter from 2000 onwards changes start taking place
keeping in view the requirement and the feed back received from different
corners. To keep pace with the changing scenario and coop up with the
mentioned requirement, following courses are also included as per the
time written against them:
- Masters in Industrial & Business Mathematics (MIBM) of two years duration, started from 1996. (It is encouraging to note that about 12 MCS qualified students have register themselves with MIBM for the session 2003)
- Diploma in Mathematics of one-year duration, started from 2001.
- Environmental Diploma program in JAVA of one year duration, started from 2001
- Environmental Diploma program in ORACLE of one year duration, started from 2001
- Environmental Diploma program in ORACLE Finance of one year duration, started from 2001

- Certificate course in Mathematics of one-year duration, started from 2001.
- Bachelor in Computational Mathematics & I.T. of 4 years duration will start from next session.
- Bachelor in Financial Mathematics of 4 years duration will start from next session.
- Moreover, Research lab of Fluid Dynamics/Operation Research has also started working from 2002, while the research lab of Image Processing is under process and will start during 2004.
The quality
of education at any institution depends upon its faculty. Acquisition
of dedicated and qualified faculty members has been the top priority
at the department since its inception. Although the faculty of the department
at time was rich and highly qualified but due to obvious reasons they
couldn't contribute what all was required. Only 29 students were awarded
degrees of M.Phil/Ph.D up to 1998. From 1999 onwards despite of much
lesser highly qualified faculty the amount of research work which leads
to M.Phil./Ph.D.
