Academic Programs
M.A. in Pakistan Studies
M.A. in Pakistan Studies is a new academic programme of an uneonventional and innovative charaeter both in its concept and purpose. As a degree course it does not come under commonly defined single-discipline subjects of Humanities and Social Sciences such as Philosophy and Literature or Economics and Sociology. It is mulli-disciplinary programme encompassing all major disciplines in such a way as to integrate various aspects of Pakistan's life and society with an academic approach. The programme offers courses in History, Literatures, Economics, Politics, International Relations, Geography, Sociology, and Religion and Ideology of Pakistan. Particular emphasis is however, given to the literary, cultural and historical aspects of Pakistan which gives the degree its specialized character. Out of twenty courses, twelve are devoted to the history, culture and literatures, and the remaining eight deal with sociology, economics, politics and foreign policy. The last four subjects are divided into two parts. Part one provides the basic knowledge of the subject and part two is devoted to a special study of Pakistan related to that discipline. For example, basic economics is taught in the first semester while the second semester is devoted to the economic development of Pakistan. The course thus provides a comprehensive and integrated knowledge and in-depth understanding of Pakistan in its various aspects. The main objective at such a multi-disciplinary course is to produce scholars, teachers and civil servants well versed in the multi-facet life of Pakistan as well as the genesis of the Pakistan movement and ideology.
