The Act provides only a guideline under which a detailed academic programme should have been worked out. Unfortunately, it was not done. Pakistan Studies is not a clearly defined discipline like those of the Area Study Centres, Centres of Excellence or other disciplines in Humanities and Social Sciences such as Philosophy or Economics. It is a new discipline covering a vide range of subjects relating to Pakistan’s Culture, History, Religion, Literature, Economy, Politics etc., in an integrated and multidisciplinary form. It therefore needed a great deal of innovative and original thinking especially on the following points:
- Concept
- Rationale
- Concrete form of studies
- Methodology through which they can be effectively implemented
Pakistan Study Centre has endeavoured to establish the meaning and parameters of Pakistan Studies developing at as a multi-disciplinary discipline.
