Dr. Tariq Masood Ali Khan joined this Institute as a Professor in May, 2008. Dr. Khan got Ph. D. degree in 1991 from Department of Meteorology and Oceanography, University of the Philippines, a regional centre of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for Asia and Pacific region. Dr. Khan joined National Institute of Oceanography in 1991 as a physical oceanographer and meteorologist, Dr. Khan was also involved in the national program of Tsunami Early Warning System for Pakistan and tide gauge installtion along Pakistan coast. Dr. Khan participated in many national and International deep sea cruises including Expedition to Antarctica. Dr. Khan was deputed to SAARC Meteorological Research Centre (SMRC), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1998.



Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan, has joined the Institute in 1990. He has done Ph.D on waste stabilization ponds technology. His specific area of interest is the environmental impact assessment studies. He has gained considerable experience on treatment and disposal of wastewater in hot climates. Presently he is working on EIA studies and biodegradation of hazardous waste



Dr Omm-e- Hany Associate Professor, Institute of Environmental Studies has joined the Institute in 1990. Her research during past years has focused on biological and biochemical effects of environmental contaminants. Her key areas of study included environmental issues pertaining to public health and hygiene. Presently she is working on the biodegradation of toxic pollutants having significant impact on environment.



Dr. Seema Jilani holds a PhD degree in the subject of Environmental Science from University of Karachi, Pakistan and ME in Environmental Science & Technology from UNESCO-IHE, Delft, The Netherlands. She has been serving in various faculty positions for last 25 years. She has authored two books and several publications to her credit in national and international research journals. She is HEC approved PhD supervisor. Her areas of interest are environmental biotechnology, bioremediation of pesticide waste, water & wastewater treatment technologies and municipal solid waste composting.


Dr. Zafar Iqbal Shams has joined the Institute as Assistant Professor in May, 2010. He has also served the Institute as Research Fellow (Air Pollution) from 1985 to 1988. He completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Science in 1993 under the Fellowship Programme sponsored by Karachi Development Authority. This is the first Ph.D degree in Environmental Science that has ever been awarded by any university in Pakistan.

Earlier in 1985, he completed his M.Sc. in Botany with specialization in Plant Ecology from the Department of Botany. He has published various research as well as popular articles in the national and international periodicals on environmental issues. He has wide experience of teaching in the colleges of Government of Sindh.




Ms. Suraiya Jabeen lecturer of the Institute has done Masters in Environmental Science from the Karachi University. She is doing research on biodegradation    of hazardous wastes of industries. She has done professional courses on Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health and Safety Management system (ISO 18001) certified by International Register of certified Auditor (IRCA).



Mr. Waqar Ahmed has joined the Institute in 2006. He graduated from the Institute in 2004. He is enrolled in the University in M.Phil/PhD. He has completed various professional training courses in the country and abroad. Before joining the Institute as a faculty member, he served in IUCN The World Conservation Union, an international organization working for environment and sustainable development. His field of interest is ecology, air pollution and noise.



Aamir Alamgir, Research Officer, in the Institute. He has done M.Sc. from this institute in 2008. He has done M.S course work and got first position in 2010. His primary field of interest is climate change and he is doing M.S in the same field.   8
Syed Ahmed Shah is a Research Officer in the Institute. He has passed MSc. Environmental Studies from University of Karachi in 2009. His field of interest is coastal ecosystems.    8

HEC Eminent Professor

Prof. Dr. S. Shahid Shaukat, Ex Chairman, Department of Botany, University of Karachi, has joined the Institute of Environmental Studies, as an HEC Eminent Scholar in September 2008. He did his PhD from the University Western Ontario, Canada in Statistical Ecology. Additionally, he holds a masters degree in Forestry from the University of Wales, UK. 
He has authored about 300 research papers in Journals of international repute and published a book entitled: Essentials of Mathematical Ecology.
