Ranking by Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds (THE–QS) 2012
The University of Karachi has again been included in the list of "Top World Universities" for 2012. The ranking was carried out by world's most prominent ranking agency Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds (THE–QS), UK. The University has been ranked 601+ among 30,000 institutions of the world and among Top 200 institutions in Asia. Moreover, it has been ranked 360 in the World in the area of Life Sciences & Medicine.

HEC ranks the UoK as the second best university in Pakistan
Higher Education Commission has ranked University of Karachi as the second best university of Pakistan in general universities (large) category. In this regard, Chairman Higher Education Commission- Dr. Javed Laghari - congratulated the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar. In his letter, Dr. Laghari said that this is the first time ever that HEC has ranked Pakistani higher education institutions on quality, teaching, and research."Since the ranking was based on the QS World universities Ranking model, we see a strong possibility that Karachi university may also qualify amongst the world’s leading universities in the QS ranking", added Dr. Laghari. Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Qaisar conveyed his greetings to the students, teachers and researchers of the University and said that their efforts have brought KU at this esteemed position. Constant and tireless struggle will lead this University towards the path of ultimate success.
