Mitsubishi Schloarship Cheque distribution ceremony
“No students should go with unfinished education from our University because of financial crises” this mission statement of the Karachi University, as stated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, was successfully materialized on February 24th 2010 when a scholarship cheque distribution ceremony was arranged. Director Student Financial Aid Office organized a Scholarship Cheque Distribution Ceremony in collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation International at the Audio Visual Centre. Dean Faculty of Pharmacy - Prof. Dr. Waseemuddin said that the University is producing keen scholars; they will serve as nation builders in the near future. Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi - Dean Faculty of Science said that by sponsoring our students Mitsubishi has participated in the progress of the entire Pakistan. While addressing the students she added that the students can contribute to the economy and national development of the country, all they need is a careful speculation of the world around them. Mr. Masaharu Domichi - General Manager Mitsubishi Corporation International, expressed his gratitude on his presence at the auspicious occasion and said that Pakistan is one of those countries, the students of, which are given economic assistance from Japan in pursuit of higher education. In the ceremony, cheques were distributed among 34 students out of which Samia Sheikh and Sabra Sheikh of Business Administration were given financial assistance of Rs.25,000 whereas others were given cheques ranging from Rs.15000 to Rs.4000 based on the merit credibility of every student. The convention of granting financial aid is set since 2002. The fact is pertinent to mention that the University of Karachi is the only institution of the country which has set up a separate department i.e. Student’s Financial Aid Office, which provides financial assistance to the deserving students. It was the 1st installment of the Scholarship program sponsored by Mitsubishi Corporation. Dean Faculty of Arts, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies and others also attended the ceremony.
Second SAARC Simulation Exercise
Department of International Relations, University of Karachi, is organizing the Second SAARC Simulation Exercise in collaboration with the Hanns Seidal Foundation, Islamabad, today, on February 25-27, 2010 at 9:00 am at the HEJ Auditorium. Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor will be the chief guest, whereas Mr. Shamshad Ahmed, former Foreign Secretary, will deliver the keynote address.
Chinese delegation visits the varsity
“We are interested in signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the biggest University of Pakistan, i.e. the University of Karachi, and various universities of China so that collaborative efforts can be made in various fields, especially in the field of Space Science and Astro Physics” said the Chinese delegate that visited University of Karachi on February 24th 2010. At this occasion Dean Faculty of Pharmacy – Prof. Dr. Waseemuddin, Dean Faculty of Science- Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Dean Faculty of Arts – Prof. Dr. Saleem Memon, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication – Prof. Dr. Rafia Taj were present. A presentation was given, in order to describe the excellence of Karachi University in academia and research. The delegation showed interest in restoring Chinese language classes at the varsity. Representative of UoK and China agreed on the student’s exchange program between both countries. Study tour between both countries was also appreciated. Later, the delegate was shown various departments and research centres of UoK which were highly appreciated by them.
