“University education should be channelized between India and Pakistan because being the think tanks of any nation, Universities, of both the countries, can effectively communicate each other’s desires and reservations”, said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui in his presidential address to the a lecture titled “Communicating Pakistan to India” on February 20th 2010. The lecture is part of the series of Sarwar Naseem Memorial Lectures. The guest speaker Mr. Hameed Haroon, CEO, Dawn Newsgroup, said that “Communication strategies between India and Pakistan have not been developed in a systematic way. The deficiency lies in the absence of laws governing individual thought patterns and freedom of expression. This communication failure can only be resolved by vitalizing Universities and allowing them to talk about the challenges of the current world. Consenting contact between the civil societies of both countries can also serve as a better solution to solve the dire issues.” Mr. Haroon emphasized that we are living in a fractioned society in which polarization has been taking place. A system of elite education has been developed because of which a domestic educational system never become an issue of contention. The reason of this neglect is that the most of the elite class do not educate their children in Pakistan. Therefore, as a result, a large segment of our society is unable to respond to the development of Pakistan. He added that we cannot expect any stability in Pakistan until our educational institutions are able to respond to the needs of this society. While commenting on the communicative competence of Pakistan Mr. Haroon said in the whole region, Pakistani society is least able to communicate with its neighbors even in terms of culture and heritage. A dignified, reasoned sense of self identity is the critical faculty and the deficiency of it prevents us from presenting a dignified image of us. Pakistani nation has to present itself as a mature and patronized nation because on the other hand it seems that India has more credibility than Pakistan which automatically diverts international favor towards India’s side. He highlighted the components of good communication strategy and said that the truth should convey a holy and desirable expression of the nation. He ended his lecture on the note that Cordoba never restricted people of mind and philosophy from roaming around the world; they had an Islamic civil society. At this occasion, the Sarwar Naseem Memorial Award was given to the student who secured highest marks in the evening program of the Department Mass Communication. Daughter, of the Late Sarwar Naseem, was also given a memento. Prof. Dr. Rafia Taj and Prof. Dr. Aqeel Ahmed spoke on the everlasting efforts and the loyalty of Mr. Sarwar Naseem with his students and the University
