Seminar at department of Statistics
The dept. of Statistics, University of Karachi conducted a seminar titled “Statistics Produced by the State Bank of Pakistan” The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Abuzar Wajidi, Dean Faculty of Management & Administrative Sciences and the chief guest on the occasion, who related the statistics compiled by the largest public sector bank (SBP) as of great value for the economy and policies of the country, through availability of important data to a number of organizations and agencies. He appreciated the cooperation of SBP for enhancing inter-action between the bank and the educational institutions, and hoped a consistency of the process in future, for the benefit of the students and the researchers of the field.
Through multi-media presentations, Dr. Azizullah Khattak, Director, Statistics & Data Warehouse Department apprised the audience that the objectives of his department were to strengthen linkage among the academia, the policy-makers, and the data compiling agencies and the users, and harmonization of data production with the users’ demand. Dr. Ansari of SBP said that Statistics Department of SBP aims at improving the quality of data through feed back and also at bridging the gap between knowledge offered and the needs of the market. Dr. Junaid Sahgeer Siddiqui, Chairman, Deptt. of Statistics, Karachi University maintained that the field of statistics has a long history and during the caliphate of Hazrat Umer (R.A.), a census of Medina was ordered for obtaining information with the objective to develop welfare of the people.
