Dr. Burney attends an International Conference in UK Dr. S. M. Aqil Burney, Meritorious Professor, Director UBIT and Chairman Department of Computer Science, University of Karachi attended an International Conference on “Recent Advances in Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Engineering and Data Bases (AIKED’10) at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, February 20-22, 2010 and presented paper related with Temporal Relational Database management models in healthcare management. This work has been published in the proceeding of the 9th WSEAS Conference on AIKED. Prof. Burney emphasized the importance of application of ICT for welfare of the society. Importance of developing intelligent system using technologies especially in Patient data management keeping in view mobile communication system with time domain as in Pakistan presently infrastructure of communication is available at public level in a abundance and about 100million mobiles are in use while the population of Pakistan is around 170 million. Professor Burney also visited Staffordshire University, Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology on the invitation of Head of Research of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology and also presented and discussed his research proposals in the field of “e-Health, Database Management and RFID Technology implementation in Pakistan” along with academic cooperation in future. Research on Healthcare Database Management and related technologies is in progress at DCS-UBIT, University of Karachi and software /development work using mobile communication is being initiated very soon with the support of University of Karachi and Industry. Professor Burney’s work has also been published internationally on logical paradigms in soft computing.
Every 276 women out of 100000 die every year in Pakistan. 34% pregnant women has no health facility available to them, in fact, in today’s advance world Pakistani women, especially those who lives in rural area are deprived of even the most basic medical facilities” said Dr. Shams Qasim Lakha, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor and Prof. Dr. M. Burfat while addressing to the National Conference organized to celebrate Women’s Day at the Arts Auditorium with mutual collaboration of Department of Sociology, University of Karachi and HANDS. They said that the majority of Pakistani Women does not have basic health facilities. Prof. Dr. M. Burfat said that the children studying in Government’s Schools are deprived of the right of questioning that is why these children face immense trouble when they reach the University because they lack communication skills. Experts presented their research papers and said that the first 8 years of a child are very important which should be given more importance.
Seminar to celebrate Women’s Day One day seminar titled “Towards Self Reliance: The Role of Self-Employed Women of Pakistan” was organized by Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies in collaboration with HEC and Ministry of Women Development, Govt. of Sindh, to celebrate International Women’s Day on Monday 8th March 2010 at the Arts Auditorium. Chief Guest- Mr. Mohamad Raza Haroon – Minister for Information and Technology said that Self Employed Women should be encouraged so that we can instill confidence among them. Such women should be considered an active part of the economy. Ms. Nasreen Jaleel Ex-Naib Nazima City District Govt. Karachi appreciated the efforts of self-employed women and said that Pakistani population consists of 55% of female population but unfortunately they are not given equal rights, we should struggle hard to give enough room to self-employed women of our country so that they can achieve success in their mission.
