Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair set up at the University of Karachi - 12/11/08

Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair was established at the University of Karachi on Wednesday at a ceremony held in the Arts Auditorium of the university. With an initial fund of Rs 25 million, the chair will be dedicated to researching different aspects of Ms Bhutto’s life.

The auditorium was packed to capacity as faculty members, scholars, students and politicians gathered to honour the former prime minister’s memory.

The chief guest on the occasion was Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah. He was accompanied by Sindh Minister for Housing Haji Muzaffar Shujra, who is also a member of KU’s syndicate, Information Minister Shazia Marri and Information Minister Shazia Marri.

A message was read out on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari, in which he emphasized on collection and compilation of data on life of this great leader.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said that the impact of the Bhutto family of the society was immense, and the society should remember its enlightened minds.  He also urged the chief minister to build a 2,000 seat auditorium on the university grounds in honour of Ms Bhutto.

Prof Saleem Memon of the Department of Sindhi conducted the proceedings.
