Research
To gear
research aptitude amongst students a compulsory course of writing of
technical report was introduced as early as 1964. However later on this
course was made option al. A total of more than 300 technical reports
have been written by the M.Sc Final students on various topics.
Individual research by the faculty members continued in the Department
and a large number of research papers have been published in International
& National Scientific Journals.
Teachers & Students also organized & participated in various
Statistical Seminars, Conferences, Workshops. In 1971 the Department
played host for All Pakistan Statistics Seminar on Price & Labor
Statistics. In 1980 the Department organized its First Statistics Seminar.
The Seminars were arranged in succession in 1982, 1984 and 1986. Their
proceedings were also printed & distributed. We hope to restart
the holding of these seminars in near future. In 1992 a seminar on Time
Series and Econometrics was arranged in collaboration with Applied Economics
Research Center. Besides, seminar lectures are also arranged regularly
in the Department.
The teachers also participated whole heartedly in seminars arranged
by professional bodies like Pakistan Statistical Association, Scientific
Society of Pakistan, Islamic Society of StatistiC21 Sciences and others.
These Seminars and Conferences were held in Karachi, Faisalabad, Lahore,
Pesha war, Quetta, Islamabad, Rabat, Malaysia etc. The teachers of the
Department also attended International Courses/Workshops held at Karachi;
Trieste (Italy) etc.
RESEARCH PROJECTS
Numerous individual and collaborative research projects were under taken
by the Faculty members of the Department. Faculty members actively participating
as Consultant to research projects of other departments and outside
agencies of Pakistan. Some of the agencies with which collaborations
were made are J.P.M.C., Dow Medical College, NDFC, C.P.S.P,, ICMA, NSRD,
NED University and 0 & M wing of cabinet division etc.
The faculty members of the Department also participated in developing
resource books on Statistics and Population studies of Allama lqbal
Open University and Curriculum wing of Ministry Education, Islamabad
respectively. Besides texts in Statistics were also written by our Faculty
member.
