Admission

B.A. (Honors) and B.Sc. (Honors)

B.A. (Honors) and B.Sc. (Honors) programs introduce students to all areas of Statistics at the elementary level and consequently, a student who completes the Honors program acquires sufficient knowledge in Classification of data, Computation of Statistical measures and elements of probability. He also acquires statistical concepts in areas such as population growth and population welfare, planning and development, Time Series analysis of scientific data collected in different time periods; Index numbers of Economic series, etc. Many students adopt careers which require knowledge of Statistics and Mathematics in fields such as Banking, Insurance, Meteorology and in research offices of private, public or government organizations, and as record keepers on computer diskettes, or computer operators in industrial organizations.

The admission requirement in B.A and B.Sc. (Honors) program is: a good knowledge of Intermediate mathematics and opting for a mathematics course as a subsidiary subject during the studies of the B.A/B.Sc. (Honors).


M.A and M.Sc. in STATISTICS
M.A and M.Sc. program in statistics prepares the students in advanced topics. Since these topics require a higher background of mathematics, hence for admission in M.A. or M. Sc. the student has to meet an additional requirement which is: B.A. or B.Sc. degree in statistics with mathematics as a second subject. The advanced topics have been divided into two categories-, Compulsory subjects and optional subjects. Among the compulsory subjects are included: Probability, Distribution Theory, Sampling theory, Analysis of Variance, Theory of statistical Inference-. while the optional subjects consist of Quality Control, Stochastic process, Epidemiologist, Experimental Design, Population Analysis.

Those who complete M. A or M. Sc. degree in statistics have a wide range of careers in the officer's grades. These students have been very successful in areas which require:

Data collection and -tabulation, Planning for development in science, economics, human resource evaluation; feasibility studies for the establishment of new organizations or industries; Supervisions of surveys and designing scientific studies.


M.A and M.Sc. in APPLIED STATISTICS
Another degree program has been introduced from 1996; it is M.A and M-Sc. in Applied Statistics. This program has been opened initially as an Evening Program. The eligibility requirement in M.A. and M.Sc. (Applied Statistics) is holds and degrees and M.A or M.Sc. in Applied Statistics. The admission test would be based on the Intermediate level of mathematics.

The courses of Applied Statistics have been designed in such a way that the student would acquire sufficient knowledge of mathematical portion of statistics and together with this they would have a sound knowledge of courses which have wide applications in business and industry.

Post Graduate Diploma in STATISTICS
This programme which is spread over two semesters is specifically for those students who are either already in service and require an elementary knowledge of Statistics to do their job in an efficient manner or for those who want to study advanced courses in their own field and require some knowledge of Statistics as an additional qualification which would be of use in research. This programme is useful for Psychologists, Sociologists, Social Workers, Econometricians, Biologists, Medical graduates, Chemistry graduates, etc.

The eligibility requirement for admission in Post Graduate Diploma in STATISTICS is-

A student who holds the degree of B.A or B.Sc. or B.Com (etc) and has not studied STATISTICS as a subject at the under graduate i e level, is eligible for admission.
