Introduction
Chairperson: Prof. Dr. Khursheed Abbasi
The department of Sindhi, Established in 1971, set out with masters programme.
Mr. Ayaz Hussain Qadri was appointed as Assistant Professor of the department.
Mr. Nawaz Ali Shouq was appointed as Lecturer in 1973. Mr. Abdul Rehman Channa and Mrs. Fahmida Hussain joined as Lecturer in 1978. Later, Mrs Khursheed Abbasi and Mr Abid Mazhar joined as lecturer in 1988 and 1989 respectively. In 1998 Mrs. Naheed Parveen joined the department as lecturer in 2003 Dr. Abdul Gafoor Memon and Mr. Rukhman Gul Palari joined the department as lecturers. |

After sometime in 1978, Dr. Nawaz Ali Shouq completed his doctorate on the topic “Poetry of Hidayat Ali Tariq Najfi” under supervision of Pir Hasamuddin Rashdi. He was first man who did his Ph.D in Sindhi literature from the University of Karachi.
Dr. Ayaz Hussain Qadri did his doctorate on the topic of "Sindhi Ghazal" and remained in the department till 1987 as professor/chairman. He was then appointed Director of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Chair where he remained for four years. He died in Dec.1997.
Dr. Nawaz Ali Shouq also remained in the department as professor/chairman. Now he is professor guide in the Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Chair, University of Karachi. Mr. Abdul Rehman Channa retired as Assistant Professor in 1995. Mr. M. Saleem Memon was promoted to the post of full professor in 1995.
Dr. Fahmida Hussain completed her doctorate in 1992 on the topic “Image of Women in the Poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai”. She was promoted as professor in 1995. She was chairperson in 1997. She is on FSL and she is now Director, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Chair University of Karachi. Mr. Saleem Memon remained the Chairman till March 2007.
The present chairperson of the department, Dr. Khursheed Abbasi was promoted to the post of Professor in May 2006. After her MPhil on the topic "A Critical Review of Various Risalas of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai" in 1995, she did her doctrate on the topic "Critical Review of Shaikh Ayaz Prose Writing" in 2002 under supervision of Dr. Nawaz Ali Shouq.
Mr. Abid Shah was promoted to post of Assistant Professor. Mr Abid Shah, Mrs. Nahid Parveen and Mr. Rukhman are enrolled in PhD.
