Requirment for Admission

For B.Sc. (HONS.)

Intermediate Science in at least Second Division with Chemistry as one of the subjects or equivalent.

For M.Sc.

B.Sc. with Chemistry as one of the subjects with at least Second Class or equivalent.

For M.Phil. /Ph.D.

A master's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

For B.Sc. (Hons.), the University in October-November announces M.Sc. programs admission every year. Candidates are selected on merit based on performance on the past examinations required for admission.

M.Phil./Ph.D.: Candidates seeking admission to M/Phil./Ph.D. program should contact faculty members with whom they wish to pursue their research. According to current procedures, the candidates are required to submit a synopsis of research through the Chairman to the Board of Advanced Studies and Research along with an application on a prescribed form.

CURRICULUM

B.Sc. (Hons.)

It is a six semester Program. In each of the first two Semesters Students take One course in chemistry. One each in two related (subsidiary) subjects and two compulsory courses a total of five courses. In each the next two (Semester III & IV) the students take two courses in Chemistry, one in each of the Subsidiary subjects and one compulsory subject. In the final year (Semester V and VI) only Chemistry courses (One each in Analytical, Industrial, Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry in each semester) are offered. Upon successful completion of these courses the student is awarded a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree.

M.Sc.

For students entering with a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree, this is a two Semester program. The students specialize in Analytical, Inorganic, Organic or Physical Chemistry taking 3 theory and two practical courses in each semester. One or two of the practical courses may be substituted by either a Research Project or a Research thesis with the approval of the Chairman in accordance with the prevalent rules.

For students entering with a B.Sc. (Pass) degree, this is a four Semester program. The first courses for the two Semesters are same as the Courses for semester V and VI of the B.Sc. (Hons) program in Chemistry while the courses for the III and IV semester of M.Sc. degree program for students entering with a B.Sc. (Pass) degree are the same as described above for the M.Sc. students with B.Sc. (Hons.) degree.
