Admissions

ADMISSION POLICY 2007

Admissions in Karachi University are given according to merit. There is no Discretionary Quota for admissions. However, certain seats are reserved for disabled persons, FATA, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Armed Forces, Sports and Children of University Teachers and Employees. For reserved seats also merit is the only criterion.

Note:Subject to eligibility admissions on reserved seats for FATA and Azad Jammu & Kashmir are granted through the Kashmir Affairs & Northern Areas Division, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad.

Admissions on Merit Seats

Since the number of applicants is much higher than the number of available seats under the University rules the applications have been divided into three categories i.e. K,S, and P.

1.                 Category "K". Comprises those applications, who have passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examinations from an educational institution situated in Karachi and also recognized by the University.

2.                 Category "S" comprises those applicants who have passed their pre-requisite examinations from a recognized educational institution in the Province of Sindh (Excluding Karachi).

3.                 Category "P" comprises those applicants who have passed their pre-requisite examinations from a recognized educational institution outside the Province of Sindh.

Preference in admissions is given to "K" category candidates. In case seats are left "S" category candidates are considered. If seats are still available then consideration is given to "P" category candidates.

Admission in the University are given strictly as per above mentioned criterion of categories.

Changes of Category

Candidates who fulfill the following conditions can apply for change of category from S or P to K.

1.                 Those students whose father or mother is domiciled in Karachi, but who have passed the pre-requisite examination from any registered National or International Institution outside Karachi or from any Pakistani Board or University which conducts examinations in foreign countries and they have passed their examination form abroad such candidates will have to produce their father's or mother's domicile certificate and a copy of CNIC with their applications.

2.                 Students whose parents are employees of the Federal or Sindh Government, or of autonomous or Semi-autonomous bodies or of Government Corporations, or Armed Forces, who have been posted in or transferred to Karachi within the last two years. Such applicants will have to produce the appointment letter or transfer letter of their father/mother together with their application.

3.                 3% seats in each department will be allocated for those candidates who have passed their pre-requisite examination from a recognized educational institution located outside Karachi but they have their initial education including Matric/Intermediate from Karachi. Such candidates should have Karachi P.R.C. and their parents should have Domicile and N.I.C. of Karachi. Candidates below the age of 18 years are required to submit photocopy of 'B'-Form.

Admission Fee

Admission & Tuition Fee for

First Semester 2007........................ Rs.2,850/-

Library Fee..................................... Rs.100/-

Examination Fee would be charged separately. The University may revise the above fee as and when necessary.

Forms and Lists

  • The date of opening of admissions, availability of forms, submission of forms and other details are announced through advertisement in the newspapers.

  • The List of successful candidates will be displayed at the camp office, University's Silver Jubilee Gate (main University Road) along with necessary instructions.

  • It may be found that admissions secured on the basis of fake documents or misinformation can be cancelled at any time and the deposited fee shall not be returned. It is to be pointed that all admission are provisional subject to verification of documents.

  • if any candidate feels that his/her name has been inadvertently left out even though he/she has secured merit marks and satisfies the other conditions of eligibility for admission to any department, he/she has applied such candidates should obtain a Claim Form from the Camp Office on payment of Rs. 200 and submit it with in the stipulated time.

  • if the claim is found to be correct, the amount for the claim form will be refunded, and admission will be granted to the candidate according to rule and regulations.
