UoK - Department of Bengali : Introduction

The Department of Bengali, University of Karachi was established in 1953 as a full fledged Department which offers Certificate Course, regular Classes in B.S. Programme, B.A.(Pass)Ist. & IInd Year Regular and External, B.A./ BSc. / BSc. Home Economics / B.Com / IInd Year Compulsory, M.A. Previous and M.A. Final (External).

The Department was chaired by various renowned Scholars like Professor Syed Ali Ahsan, Professor Ali Ashraf, Professor Muhammd Farooq and Mr. A. B. M. Muhiuddin Chaudhry.

Apart from organizing various Seminars, the Department has also brought a number of publications like "Bengali Literary Review". The Seminar Library of the Department it is equipped with 2,000 books on Bengali Literature’s. Several hundred books on different themes of Bengali Literature have also been kept at the Dr. Mahmud Hussain Library, University of Karachi.
