Introduction

The Department of Arabic, University of Karachi, was established in 1955. Since its inception, the Department is enjoying the patronage of renowned scholars of international repute. From the outset, the Department started functioning under the auspicious headship of the renowned scholar Professor Allama Abdul Aziz Memon Highly qualified faculty members having vast experience enjoying good reputation are taking part in dispersal education. The cautiously chosen syllabus considering the demands of the student and the existing period, offers excellent study of the ancient times and the contemporary era. It is indeed a confluence of ancient and modern Arabic Literature, Language and Linguistics. Besides academic activities, curricular and co-curricular activities are also stressed like extension lectures, debates, study tours, picnics and other functions to reveal, enhance and polish the abilities and talent of the students. At present forty two (42) courses of Arabic Literature, Language and Linguistics are taught including computer and research methodology.
